Paris When It Sizzles

10 Jun

Hello, my friends!  Can you believe it’s been almost a year since my last post?  Well, I have been busy with my new collaborative, Philly-based, awesome-sauce blog, Very Glossy.  Please take some time on this steamy Friday to check it out, and if you’re feeling extra nice, give us a like on Facebook– we’ll promise to love you back. ♥

A free trip to Paris?! Oh Happy Day, indeed!

So, on to another, equally fabulous reason as to why I decided to crawl out of the depths of the interwebs  to write a much needed post- a FREE trip to gay Paris is involved 😉  Yes, I said free, including hotel and airfare within the continental US courtesy of fab Francophile blogger, Jordan, of Oh Happy Day.  Check out all of the deets, found in her post here, for your chance to win.  In addition to this being a completely amazing opportunity- Jordan is footing the bill herself as a personal thank-you to all of her wonderful readers.  In a word- WOW!  Plus, you’ll get a personal two-day tour featuring all of Jordan’s favorite spots and hidden gems.  What are you waiting for??  Have at it ladies and gents!

I hope to get back into the groove of making updates here, of a more personal, and possibly local nature.  Also, if you have any ideas, questions, fancies, feel free to share and I’ll see what I can whip up.  Thank you, as always, for following.  And maybe, one day, we’ll meet in Paris- before sunrise.  À bientôt! ♥

Do. Want. These. Now.

ASOS ALATE Almond Toe Cuff Lace Up Boot $117.95

ASOS, how do I adore thee?? In so many ways than you’ll ever know, but my wallet is very familiar with.

Pair these lovelies with a fitted 80s-yet-updated denim mini, black tights, a sweet tee and your favorite biker jacket– and you’re all set for early fall.

Rock the Casbah

Vintage Modern

If I was asked to sum up my thoughts on the budding collection of sisters Elisa Mona and Stella June in two words… well, just refer the above title.

I was pointed to their saucy yet sweet site by my friend Amy, who loves sourcing and supporting independent (not to mention local!) designers just as much as I do.  The thing that screamed out to me the most about Mona et June’s line truly IS the seamless integration of old and new, trendy and classic, etc., etc.

Prairie Flower Dress- $50.99

This is accomplished combining the equally fashion savvy, but genre-polar minds of the siblings (Mona- vintage, June- classic/modern).  It’s a marriage made in couture heaven, or rather, Philadelphia to be precise.   The Prairie Flower Dress (above) is a shining example- taking the always hot frontier trend and melding it with lines reminiscent of a top fit for Miss Page.

Oh, and to deepen my love even further for this line- everything on the site is under 70 bucks!!!… well, at least now, during the sale.  But still!  The “priciest” frock I could find was a mere $67… a drop in the bucket in the name of fashion- and having something that’s truly one-of-a-kind.  Go on girls!

Leave it to the Brits…

To pretty much do everything right.  Check out this pic of fashion plate and eternal goddess, Sienna Miller, below- courtesy of Cheap Chicas:

This post was brought to my attention by fellow blogger and friend, L.E.Défilé, who pointed out the similarity of Sienna’s dress to the one I was wearing (FreePeople, circa 2008).  Now, while I love CC’s suggestion of Delia’s fab sand-colored lace-up boots, I was bound and determined (and completely convinced that I can find a knock-off of ANYTHING-  just ask!) to find myself a sweet pair of doppelgangers.  And guess what?  I did just that.  In 5 minutes flat 🙂

Miss KG Swag Buckle Slouch Boot- $143 from ASOS.com.

This pair, from British outpost ASOS,  gives Miss Miller’s a run for their money.  Just loosen the top buckle, fold ’em down, and baby you’re ready to roll- celebrity style.

So, Marie Antoinette Walks In To A Bar…

… dripping with ever-so-intricate jewels… or, wait, are those…. nooo…  God save the Queen!

I was  reminded of my original sighting of couture’s recent foray into mixing street culture with fashion proper by both Miss Défilé’s latest Coco post, and by my friend Key’s beautiful body of adornment (and, admittedly blatant mention of this).

Trompe L'Oeil

Tattoo You

Leave it to the messiah of all that is classy and classic in this divine world to bring us- temporary tattoos? !?  Yes.

This also proves the old addage that you can slap a brand on to just about anything these days- your skin included.  Les Trompe-L’Oeil de Chanel “Temporary Skin Art” is available directly through Chanel’s site for a semi-steep $75– a bit much for something that’s just going to come off in the shower.  But, ’tis a small price to pay to gratuitously display your love for Chanel, and possibly gain a little street cred while you’re at it.  And, I must say, the designs are quite pretty- quite fit for royalty.

The Girl with the Pearl, Bracelet.... Tattoo

Leave the Cracker-Jack sifting to the kids, ladies and opt for something a bit more opulent-  a bit more bad-ass.  ♥

Talk Nerdy to me, Baby

7 Jun

Ahh, who doesn’t love the cyclical nature of fashion?  And the reality that pretty much ANYTHING can come back “in-style”, no matter how good or bad (want an insta-m0m-pooch:  snap up some high waisted pleated pants!  yea, that trend lasted long.)  But this oldie is a goodie, and a nod to why I have such a love affair with vintage.

Nerd glasses!  Whether heavy platic-framed, cat-eyed, or horn rimmed this is one staple that will out-survive just about anything in your (or grandma’s) closet.  Check out this awesome (and affordable!) pair of (sun)glasses from Spitfire, currently available online though Nasty Gal .

Spitfire Fassbinder Shades: $44

Sans sun, the aviator frontals pop off of so you can sport ’em like the innocent lil bookwork beauty you are, and can most likely be fitted with your necessary perscription lenses.  So, you’re really getting a two-for-one here:  $44/2 = $22 each for a pair of sunnies and some specs.  Best pull yourself away from that Vonnegut and snap these up pronto!  Last time I tried to grab these from OAK NYC they sold out within 24 hours…  Safe to say, I already ordered (and recieved!) mine, and can’t wait to parade them around with my new AllSaints dress and combat boots .  They’d look equally rad with a simple, slightly-oversized tee, some cut-off shorts, and gladiator flats.

btw, if you’re searching for a lighter shade of shades, the Fassbinders are also available in Amber:

Lastly, for the true vintage enthusiast, the always wonderful treasure trove  of one-of-a-kind finds, Etsy, has a groovy  selection of glasses  to assist you in your quest for nerddom.

From BibbysRocket on Etsy: $84

It’s hip to be square; so get off your tail you  cool cats and hop to the mail…ordering.

Holy Sale!

24 May

The UK’s paragon of amazingly tailored comfort chic, All Saints, is having an unheard of sale– 25% off SITE WIDE(!),  and I simply couldn’t keep it to myself– well, that is until I made haste of purchasing some early summer staples.  And now that I have secured them, it’s time to share!

Luna Top- Was $80, now $59

Caio bella, Luna!  How do I love thee?  Let me count the ways… 1. Your figure flattering lines  2.  Your playfully slightly plump collar  3.  Your almost daringly low neckline; and 4. Your super soft shoud-be-vintage light cotton fabric.  Here is what she looks like on, when I should have bought her dinner and taken her home in Miami.

Luna di Trezchic

Luna is worn best with black skinnies and strappy, chunky, stacked-heel platform sandals- on the organic side.  Or, dress her up with a frilly black tiered mini, gladiator sandals, and a cascade of varying metallics.

And, being an admited “asia-phile”, I just couldn’t pass up this cute little number– both for its name and the wonderfully boho-70s-esque floral pattern.

Tokyo Ditzy Dress- Was $137, now $103

Just look at that bevy beautifully draped, flowing fabric and tell me is doesn’t make you a little ditzy?  Pair it with stacks of skinny Indian bangles and some combat boots and you’re good to go scout out The Sartorialist in NYC for an impromptu photo shoot!

Before I say pip-pip-cherrio, this sale is TODAY ONLY and you must go through the All Saints UK site— the front page will say “25% off Bank Holiday Promotion” and all prices will be in GBP.   Even with the semi-insanely-high shipping rate to the US (GBP 20!), it’s still cheaper than paying full price on the site made for us Westerners, who *don’t* get the sale…

Have at it lads and lasses ❤
